Regenokine vs. Platelet Rich Plasma

Regenokine vs. Platelet Rich Plasma

Regenokine has been the latest craze, especially in the NFL industry. These players require treatments that allow them to get back in the game without any restrictions. But is Regenokine actually more effective than our Platelet Rich Plasma?

What is Regenokine?

Regenokine is an updated form of Orthokine, which is basically a natural anti-inflammatory. While it still requires a blood draw like with our PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), it includes heating the cells and culturing them with glass beads. Per FDA regulations, this manipulates the blood sample too much, and would now be considered a drug. Therefore, this procedure is not allowed in the United States. Patients who want to have these procedures done must travel to the European countries. While there are more than 10,000 peer-reviewed articles on Platelet Rich Plasma and Stem Cell therapies, there are 8 on Regenokine. Which typically means that the effects of this procedure are unknown or do not produce satisfactory results, even though it has been around for the same amount of time as PRP and stem cells.

While Regenokine may help some patients with inflamed knee joints (much like a glorified, and very expensive cortisone injection) it does not help regenerate or slow down the progression of arthritis like PRP or stem cells do. The only redeeming quality is its anti-inflammatory properties, which can sometimes take weeks to kick in. Without the healing components of PRP or stem cells, patients must return often for treatments, which on average cost around $10,000. Taking all these factors into account, more providers have gravitated towards Platelet Rich Plasma treatments as it offers actual healing and little downtime as well.

Our StemCell ARTS team recently received amazing recognition from Judy, a patient under the care of Dr. Benjamin Newton in the Chevy Chase, MD office. Judy provides her experience after undergoing Platelet Rich Plasma and Platelet Lysate injections to treat her cervical spine.

I was seen in August for my 2nd PRP treatment. I am thrilled to say that I can really see and feel the difference since my last treatment.  Initially it was crazy sore and quite miserable but after about 6 weeks I started to really improve.  I was able to travel lugging my own suitcase and back pack throughout London, Paris and Scotland on /off trains /metros / etc.  I was so surprised at how well my neck and back did throughout the whole time.

No muscle relaxers or Advil needed the entire trip .  I wanted to send a big thank you to Dr. Newton as I have been struggling with pain for over 11 years since my accident.

Our StemCell ARTS team recently received amazing recognition from Maria, a patient under the care of Dr. Robert H. Wagner in the Tysons Corner, VA office. Maria explains her experience after undergoing the Stem Cell series of injections to treat knee arthritis.

“I have started taking walks and even joined a line dancing group thanks to your work.  Every now and then I have pain to the point where I slow down and have to take it easy, at least for a day.  With both the right and left knees affected by osteoarthritis I can’t really complain about the mobility that I have at this point on both knees.  I am thankful that I had the injection done in the right knee and the stem cell on the left, both treatments have helped me up to this point.”

StemCell ARTS Helps Julie Mariano with Pelvic Pain!

Commonly Misdiagnosed

Mrs.  Mariano’s story is common, and echoes the frustration that some women feel when their pelvic pain is misdiagnosed. She woke up after a procedure with debilitating back pain. She saw countless numbers of physicians who could not accurately diagnose her even with the proper imaging. Despite going through a series of conservative measures such as, physical therapy and standard interventional steroid injections, she failed to receive any relief. After a few sessions, her physical therapist started to realize that her pelvis was not staying in place. Julie took this information and ran with it. She did extensive research and was able to find StemCell ARTS.

Treatment at StemCell ARTS

She flew from her home state of Florida to our clinic in Virginia to consult with Dr. Mayo Friedlis. He diagnosed her with pelvic instability, and we were able to create a customized treatment plan for her. We started her on Platelet Rich Plasma and Prolotherapy treatments that help tighten ligaments in order to help stabilize her pelvis. After a few treatments, she was already seeing improvement and continues to strive toward getting back to long walks on the beach and horseback rides!

Pelvic Pain in Women

We here at StemCell ARTS appreciate all that women (especially our mothers) do for us! We understand that women who have been pregnant are more susceptible to pelvic pain, as child-birth causes trauma to that area. The ligaments around the pubic symphysis get stretched out, and can cause instability; this in turn can cause deferred pain in the hips and low back. Often, these pains are misdiagnosed, and steroid injections provide only temporary relief because they are not treating the source of the problem.

SCA Treatments for Pelvic Pain

Here in our clinic, we provide customized treatments that are able to help tighten up those sacral ligaments and tendons to help relieve pain. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are concentrated autologous platelets that are hand-processed in our laboratory. Once injected, they are able to shorten and strengthen tendons and ligaments. Prolotherapy is sometimes also an option for those with less severe pain. It is a dextrose-based solution that is injected into the pelvis and surrounding ligaments, also in an effort to tighten them. Prolotherapy causes inflammation which tells your body’s repair cells to congregate to the site, which might have been an old injury that your body has forgotten about. Our treatments can help women (and men) get back to those kids that initially caused your pain!
