Treatment: Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) / Bicep Tendon

A network engineer, Steve Sanders has a hectic work schedule that routinely involves lifting heavy equipment like computer servers.  At home, Steve and his wife keep themselves busy with home projects and an active social life.
In August 2006, Steve and his wife decided to renovate their home by building a new deck.  While loading the heavy wooden boards into the car, Steve’s wife lost her grip on the board resulting in an injury to Steve’s arm.
Within a few weeks time, the pain in Steve’s arm became excruciating.  “I couldn’t use my arm at all.  It was getting to the point that the pain was spreading from my shoulder to my hand, my elbow, and my thumb.  I was in absolute misery.”  The pain began to impact his daily functioning.  “It was crippling.  I was struggling to do my job and it was having a serious affect on my relationship with my wife.  I was so unpleasant because I was in constant pain.  I was totally unhappy and all I could think about was the hurt.”
Steve saw several medical professionals and felt he was getting nowhere fast.  He finally ended up at a consultation with one of our Regenerative physicians, hoping for some answers and some relief from the agonizing pain.  The physician completed a comprehensive exam and ordered a MRI to ascertain the full extent of Steve’s injury.  The MRI showed torn fibers in the bicep tendon of his left forearm.  Steve wanted to explore all treatment options and obtained a surgical consultation.  The surgeon told Steve that there was nothing that could be done and that Steve should just “learn to live with it”.
Steve returned to our Regenerative experts and was given another answer.  The physician recommended Steve undergo a series of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections to be administered under x-ray guidance to promote healing at the precise site of injury.  By the third session of PRP, Steve was feeling much better.  After six months, the pain was gone.  “My recovery could not have happened without the technology and expertise of the physician.  I have my arm back and I have full strength and flexibility in my elbow.  The pain is gone.  The physician and his PRP gave me my life back!”
