As a military veteran, award winning bodybuilder, lifestyle coach, and personal trainer, Kimberly Doehnert relies on her physical health. Over the past 19 years, Kimberly has been educating and inspiring others as a personal trainer. She channeled this passion into a thriving business, earning herself a reputation as “DC’s toughest trainer.”
For Kimberly, fitness is life, but shoulder and knee injuries threatened to sideline her. “As much as I’d like to think I’m indestructible, I’m not Superwoman,” Kimberly says. “As a competitive body building athlete, I train for at least three to four hours in the gym every day. Not to mention the time I spend training clients. It is a lot of abuse on your body.”
One day, while exercising, Kimberly noticed her right shoulder felt awkward and uncomfortable. “I thought it was muscle soreness from working out, but uncharacteristically, I just couldn’t shake it.” Unfortunately, her pain increased and, soon, she couldn’t lift anything over her head. “It was terrifying. I needed full mobility in my upper body in order to compete! And my ability to train clients was impacted, which affected my business.”
Kimberly reluctantly opted for rotator cuff surgery, but that failed to alleviate her shoulder pain. “I knew I was not getting better. It was around this time that a colleague recommended that I seek out alternative treatments.”
Kimberly turned to the physicians at StemCell ARTS. Her physician discovered small rotator cuff tears in both her shoulders and tendinitis in her knees. “To finally have a diagnosis and understand what was actually wrong was such a relief. The doctor was amazing, just amazing.”
Kimberly’s doctor recommended a treatment plan of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). “I was back in the gym within the first month. Over time, the treatments fully healed my shoulders and knees, and allowed me to live my life again,” says Kimberly. Her confidence restored, Kimberly could finally train for formal competition in the prestigious International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB).
“In my first competition since the treatments, I felt like myself again. In fact, I felt stronger than before,” she shares. Kimberly went on to compete in three additional bodybuilding shows. In the final competition, she earned first place and professional status.
As for being indestructible, Kimberly knows better than most, “the body breaks down, it is inevitable, but it is incredibly comforting to know there are expert physicians at StemCell ARTS who can help. I just want to thank them for helping me achieve my dream.”
